Postage Stamps of France
France is one of the premiere collecting areas of the world. With this country approaching 6000 issues as listed in the Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalog, this would count as a major philatelic challenge. I believe this is a challenge worth attempting.
The
issues begin in 1849 with the Ceres issues, followed by the Napoleon III
issues.
Example of Scott #37, 5fr Napolean high
value.
Example of Scott #41a VF! Gorgeous 4 margin copy!
The
Commemorative stamp issues begin in 1924 with the Olympic issue, and proceed
with thousands of interesting and beautiful stamps to the present day.
Example of Scott #198-201. This issue was
overprinted twice for use in Lebanon and Syria.
Example of Scott 329a-d, Used “center block”
from the Rare 1937 PEXIP Souvenir Sheet.
Example of Scott #2704-5 (modern issues).
France
has one of the largest Semi-Postal sections of any country with many of them
issued for their Red Cross charities. Worth noting are the many personality
type sets issued in the 1940’s and 1950’s which are becoming scarce and highly
sought after.
Example of Scott #B285-B290. This is one of
the most scarce issues of the French Semi-Postals.
The
airmail section contains world class philatelic items that grace the covers of
philatelic auctions worldwide. The Back of the Book stamps include the difficult
to complete postage dues, Official stamps and the challenging Parcel Post
stamps.
Example of Scott C15, 50 franc airmail with
network.
This
country is sure to give you decades of enjoyment and when you’re finished , a
highly prized collection!
